The Stephens Standard magazine was published from 1920 to 1961. It provided news about curricular changes, departmental programs, building projects, land acquisition for expansion, the whereabouts of graduates, and sorority and other social functions. It also provided biographical sketches and information on the professional achievements of faculty, as well as features on administrators and staff. The Standard also carried students' creative works, such as short fiction, non-fiction, poetry, illustration, and photography. By the early 1960s the Standard become exclusively a literary magazine. It was written by students of the College as an educational enterprise, maintained as part of the laboratory equipment of English composition under the direction of Roy Ivan Johnson. Students were on their honor to submit only original material; articles were subject to the censorship of the class is Advanced Composition. Occasional contributions by alumnae and faculty were requested by the editors.
